Are You a Professional Weightlifter?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

– Matthew 28:30 (NIV)

Are you starting off the week with what seems like the weight of the world on your shoulders? Have you been dealing with the fact that someone hurt your feelings over the weekend and you can’t find the strength to forgive? Are you feeling bad because you just couldn’t resist that temptation that made you feel guilty? Or, are you just dealing with overwhelming grief, financial issues, or issues with your children or spouse?

Life can seem overwhelming – and you haven’t even entered the workplace yet. But, let me offer you some free advice – you don’t have to be a “professional weightlifter.” Jesus Christ never intended for us to have to bear the heaviness of trials and tribulations on our own. But, sometimes, we take on all the weight of a situation or our circumstance without realizing that Jesus Christ is right there to help lift the burden(s) off of us.

Have you ever seen people lift weights in the gym? Have you always noticed that someone is usually standing right there at the top of the weight bench? This person is called a Spotter. The role of a Spotter is to support the person and assist them if they can’t complete a lift.

Did you know that Jesus Christ is right there with you? He is your Spotter!!! Actually, like spotters in the gym, He should be at the head of everything in your life so He can monitor it all and be right there to assist you. All you have to do is let Jesus Christ know that the weight, the burden that you are carrying, is too much for you and He will take the weight off of you.

ACTION ITEM: Isaiah 61:1-3 states, “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” IF you are ready to release the weight that you are carrying today, I want you to take a moment and in your own way, PRAISE God. He responds when we praise Him and worship Him and you will experience pure joy when you are in His presence.
