My husband and I made last minute plans for a get-away with the children during their Spring Break this year. Knowing that it is close to the end of Spring semester for me and I have a major research study due and a major paper due, I figured that I could get some school work done while we were away. However, Isaac, Selena, and Isaiah had other plans for their Mommy! The day before we left, Isaac advised me, “Mommy! Selena, Isaiah and I had a discussion and we decided that if we see you on your computer, we will slap your hands, close your computer and unplug it.” Well, I guess my plans to get some school work done went right out the window.
Day 1: We explored the Barrier Island Station resort and settled in. We checked out a restaurant named Max’s Pizza Company and enjoyed a wonderful dinner out together. Best Mediterranean panini, hands down!Day 2: We played UNO for a couple of hours and we saw just how competitive Selena could be at the game. We all spent time in the indoor pool – the kids had a blast! Selena, my Mom and I took a stroll down to the beach to view the waves at sunset.
Day 3: We played more UNO, had our fill of Duck Donuts, and watched the University of Virginia men’s basketball team beat Auburn in the NCAA Final Four! We also enjoyed a family stroll on the beach to collect sand & seashells for our window box art display to commemorate our Spring Break vacay 2019.
Day 4: We said our goodbyes to Duck, North Carolina and promised to come back again!
It was hard to unplug and I have to admit – the first day or two, I did sneak in a few work emails on my cell phone. I also worked late on a few dialogue posts for school a few nights after they went to sleep. But, every moment, I spent with my family this week was absolutely amazing. I even got the opportunity to sleep in late!
In Luke 10:41-42, Jesus spoke to Martha, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.” Isaac, Isaiah, and Selena, my three wise little children, noticed how busy and distracted I have been lately and wanted me to enjoy vacation and time with them. It was just what I needed to realize that family means everything and I will never get back this time with them, so I need to cherish every moment!
So, take a moment and hug your little ones and let them know just how much they mean to you. Tell them that you love them! More importantly, show them that you love them by not letting the business of this world come before cherishing precious moments with them.
This is family vacation as it should be! Looks, fun and simple, chance to reconnect with what’s most important in life 🙂
