5 Scriptures on Conquering Fear

“We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” – Romans 8:37

When I was 11 years old, I fell while riding my bicycle. The handlebars jabbed me directly underneath my rib cage – ouch, it was so painful! It was so painful that I didn’t have an appetite the next day. I love food, so you know that I must have been in pain. I never rode on my pink huffy bicycle again.

It wasn’t until my adult years that I decided to face my fear of riding a bicycle again and jump back on one. My husband purchased a bicycle for himself, the kids…and me. So, because it was all about “quality family time”, I decided to conquer my fear of getting on a bicycle and try it again. Now, I ride on the back of my husband’s Harley!

In order to conquer fear, you have to make a conscious effort to not let fear consume your life. Many times, we let the thing(s) that we fear, stop us from making decisions or moving forward to our destiny. For every fear that you may have, God has already provided direction for us in His word. Here are 5 scriptures that offer assurance about a few fears that some of us have faced or may face during our lifetime:

FEAR OF FAILURE: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

You Can Conquer the Fear of Failure

If you have been praying and seeking God about a business that you want to start or about changing jobs or about going back to school, I believe that God will give you the strength and help that you need to be successful.

FEAR OF NOT HAVING ENOUGH: “And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!” – Luke 12:22-24 (ESV)

“And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and

Today, we are still faced with many economic pressures. Companies are closing and employees are being laid off. Others face unexpected hardships. Remember, despite what you are going through, we are still more fortunate than people that live in third world countries with no access to resources. Focus on your blessings, TRUST God and be faithful to Him – He will always make a way.

FEAR WHILE IN A RELATIONSHIP: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”- 1 John 4:18 (ESV)

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”- 1 John 4_18 (ESV)

I have been in an abusive relationship in the past, and I know that abuse does not equal love. If someone truly loves you, you will not live in fear while being with them. You should feel loved and security. God only wants the best for His children so don’t settle and be with someone that is going to cause you to be miserable.

FEAR OF BEING ALONE: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6

You Are Never Alone! (1)

With Jesus Christ, we are never alone. That is why it is so important to dedicate time to having a strong relationship with Him. Talk to Him – He is always there to listen to you. Trust me, spending time with Jesus Christ will empower you to overcome your fears and insecurities.

FEAR OF DEATH: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” – Psalm 23:4

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” – Psalm 23_4

Several years ago, I saw my Father take his last breath after he battled cancer. He was at peace at the time of his passing because He had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When you have Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can rest assured that when we leave our earthly bodies, we will inherit our heavenly home that is promised to the Children of God.

  1. I’ve learned that fear can cripple us and render us powerless….exactly where the enemy wants us. In Christ, we can have complete freedom from the grip of fear…Thank you Jesus!
