She awakens from her drunken daze. Her head still pounding from the music at the club the night before. The man she met last night left hours ago. Feeling empty inside, she grabs up her clothes and heads for the shower. Guilty and ashamed, she gets dressed, grabs her Bible, and heads to church searching for a worship experience that will erase all that she did the night before.
The music is on point, the Word of God is encouraging, and she thinks to herself that she will do better when she leaves.
Later that day, she receives a text from her on-again, off-again boyfriend asking if he can come over to spend the night.
And the cycle continues – she decides to set God aside so she can do what she wants to do. She’ll visit with Him again next Sunday.
God, no doubt, is sitting on the sideline waiting for her to recognize that He is the only one who can fill the emptiness she has inside.
I imagine that God’s heart breaks every time we use Him for our spiritual pleasure and then days or weeks pass by before we call out to Him again.
There is no love in one night stands; it’s only for momentary pleasure. Our God deserves more from us than a few hours on Sunday or a prayer when we need Him. He wants and He deserves to have a true relationship with each of us. He wants a relationship with us where we can love Him for better or for worse; when we can love Him whether we are blessed or when we are in need; where we can love Him when we are sick and when we are well. He deserves and He wants a relationship with us where we communicate and commune with Him daily.
I’m sure He is tired of the one night stands and being used. Now the question is – Are you tired of the one night stands and ready to embrace a loving relationship with Jesus Christ?
